Lake Martin near Breaux Bridge is a wilderness. Yesterday--just driving around its borders--we saw alligators, turtles, and one monstrous nutria. Several species of heron and egret. We heard frogs and woodpeckers. And it's a beautiful place. The cypress arching from swamp to sky. The quiet whirr of insects as the sun heats the air. The stillness.
